Counselling Support

We have a certified counsellor, Mairi, who can provide blocks of one-to-one support, for coping with the stresses of an intensive caring role. Mairi will work with you to identify your goals, and work with you on developing strategies to help you move forward. This is also a place for you to work through worries and concerns and process your emotions in a safe space.

Complete the form below to request access to our counselling service. Please note that there is a waiting list for the service, and we may not be able to allocate places to all applicants. A member of our team will be in touch to chat through your needs.

    Counselling Service Terms & Conditions

    Counselling Service

Stirling and Clackmannanshire Carers offers short-term counselling support delivered by a qualified counsellor.

    The service consists of:

    • One-to-one counselling sessions.
    • Sessions lasting approximately one hour.
    • A course of 6 to 8 sessions, subject to individual needs and availability.

    Appointments and Attendance

Clients are expected to attend all agreed appointments.

    • Appointment reminders may be provided by Stirling and Clackmannanshire Carers prior to each session.
    • If a client is unable to attend, they should notify the Centre as soon as possible.
    • If the counsellor is unable to attend, the Centre will inform the client and arrange an alternative appointment where possible.
    • The counselling service is in high demand and appointment spaces are limited.

Where a client misses appointments or repeatedly cancels sessions, particularly without giving notice, Stirling and Clackmannanshire Carers may withdraw the offer of counselling after two cancellations. This is to ensure that counselling appointments remain available to other carers who require support.

    Confidentiality

Counselling sessions are confidential and are delivered in accordance with recognised professional ethical standards.

However, confidentiality may need to be broken in certain circumstances, including where:

    • There is concern that a client may pose a risk to themselves.
    • There is concern that a client may pose a risk to others.
    • Information is disclosed relating to child protection concerns.
    • Information relates to money laundering, organised crime, or other serious criminal activity.
    • Records are requested through a lawful court order.

Where appropriate and possible, the client will be informed if confidentiality needs to be breached.

    Professional Supervision

To maintain professional standards and ensure clients receive the best possible service, the counsellor regularly attends professional supervision.

Supervision involves confidential discussions with an experienced counselling professional to support safe and effective practice. Any information discussed in supervision remains confidential and is handled in accordance with professional requirements.

    Assessment and Suitability

The counsellor may undertake a risk assessment where appropriate to ensure that the counselling service can safely and effectively meet a client's needs.

If it is assessed that the service is not suitable for a client's circumstances, the counsellor may recommend alternative support services. Any recommendations will be made in the client's best interests, and the client is free to accept or decline those suggestions.

    Record Keeping and Data Protection

The counsellor maintains confidential client records as part of professional practice.

    • Records are stored securely.
    • Records are retained for seven years in line with professional and insurance requirements.
    • Access to records is restricted except where disclosure is required under the exceptions outlined in the Confidentiality section of these Terms and Conditions.
    • Personal information is processed and stored in accordance with UK data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).

    Complaints and Concerns

Clients who have concerns about the counselling service are encouraged to raise them directly with the counsellor in the first instance so that an appropriate resolution can be sought.

If the matter cannot be resolved informally, information about the relevant professional complaints process will be provided upon request.
