Meet Our Board

Our Board is made up of volunteers with a wide range of experience. Many have been or are currently in caring roles, bringing lived experience to decision-making. Our Board is responsible for all governance, legal compliance and strategic planning.

David Khan, Chair

With 25 years’ experience in banking and fintech across Risk, Operations, and Transformation, David brings a wealth of expertise in governance, strategy, and business change.

Over the past five years, David has served as a non-executive leader, including Chair, Chair of Risk and Audit Committee, Independent Risk Advisor, and Independent Credit Committee Member. A seasoned people leader and diversity advocate, David is also an accredited positive psychology coach, combining analytical insight with a focus on culture, development, and impactful change.

Gina Alexander, Vice Chair

Gina Alexander began her HR career with a major blue-chip company before moving into the community and voluntary sector, where her values aligned more closely. Over the past 20+ years, she has held leadership roles in development, engagement, and management.

For nine years, Gina led Care Opinion’s pioneering work in Scotland, positioning it as a global leader in using online feedback to improve health and social care. Now freelance, she combines consultancy with various voluntary roles.

She proudly serves on the Board, advocating for unpaid carers and supporting the SCC team with her experience and people skills. Gina is also an associate facilitator with the Social Enterprise Academy, a volunteer mentor with MCR Pathways, and Scotland’s first accredited facilitator of the “Awakening Joy” programme. Outside work, she enjoys swimming, walking, singing, and knitting.

Alasdair Rutherford, Secretary

Alasdair Rutherford is a Professor of Social Statistics at the University of Stirling. His work focusses on using data to better understand major challenges in charities and non-profits, data-driven regulation, health & ageing, social care, and volunteering.

Alasdair’s academic background includes economics, sociology, psychology and artificial intelligence. Prior to becoming an academic, he worked for seven years in marketing and fundraising for a large social care charity. His areas of expertise include governance, charity regulation, economics, data and risk.

Alasdair sits on the Scottish Third Sector Research Forum and the NCVO Research Advisory Group. He is also a board member of SpeechBubble Drama and managing director of the social enterprise Socialudo. He has previously sat on the trustee boards of Age Scotland, Hanover Scotland, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, and the Broomhouse Centre.

Joan Walsh, Treasurer

Joan is a recently retired qualified management account and HR professional. She has a wealth of experience across many sectors including the legal industry and an ecological consultancy.

Joan became known to Stirling Carers Centre as a carer. She is still in a caring role and many of her friends are also carers. Joan joined the Board in 2018, following her involvement in Stirling Carers’ Voice, and took up the Treasurer role in 2021.

Alison Gee

Alison joined the Board in 2018 after leaving a full-time employment and saw it as a positive way to use her skills and be involved in a local organisation that played such an important role in supporting carers.

Alison’s career has focused on business start-up support, funding and Enterprise Education across multiple sectors including the Princes Trust for 20 years and then latterly with The University of Edinburgh. Now semi-retired, Alison helps educators deliver business education online.

Originally from Hereford, Alison has lived in Scotland for over 35 years and has 2 grown up children and a growing band of grandchildren. Alison enjoys travel both locally and further afield with a particular love of Italy. Her travels fit well her keen interest in photography.

Hilary Rawlinson

Hilary began her working life as a scientist in the Health Service, facilitating the introduction of a maternity screening programme to the West of Scotland. She later joined a well known toy shop, and rose through the ranks to become an area manager with responsibilities for stores across Scotland.

Although she has no first hand experience of being a carer, she has been on the Board for a number of years, and is proud to serve this amazing, essential organisation. She has witnessed it thrive and grow, and looks forward to being part of its future development.

Hilary’s hobbies include cold water swimming, reading, gardening, cooking and quilting, but her passion is people, and she likes to help wherever she can. She was born in England, but came to Scotland to University almost 60 years ago, and considers herself an honorary Scot!

Mary Woollhead

Mary has served on the Board for several years, bringing a wealth of experience from her career as a registered nurse and her lived experience as a former carer. Her deep understanding of the challenges faced by carers, both from a professional and personal perspective, shapes her thoughtful contributions to the Board.

With her compassionate insight, commitment to person‑centred support, and strong grounding in health and social care, she plays a vital role in guiding the organisation’s strategic direction and ensuring that the voices of carers remain at the heart of our work.

Megan Davies

Megan is Head of Careers at the University of Stirling, where she leads strategic initiatives to enhance student employability and career development. With over 20 years working in higher and further education, she brings extensive experience in education, stakeholder engagement, and inclusive practice to her role as a trustee of Stirling & Clackmannanshire Carers.

Megan is committed to supporting unpaid carers, particularly young carers, and contributing to the organisation’s mission of providing accessible, compassionate, and empowering services to the local community.

In addition to several internal governance committee positions, Megan has represented Scotland at UK level as a member of the AGCAS (Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services) Community Committee.
